I caught up with The Cab frontman, Alex DeLeon, on the last day of this year's Warped Tour. Luckily, I had difficulties with the recorder so our conversation about how soft I thought his hands were did not end up in this interview...thank God.
Brianna: Who have been your favorite bands to tour with on Warped?
Alex: The Summer Set, uhh NeverShoutNever, he’s not a band but Mike Posner. He’s definitely become a really good friend of ours.
Brianna: So have there been any, like, tour pranks lately?
Alex: I Twitter-jack people a lot, like when Brian from The Summer Set’s on stage, I’ll steal his phone; send really obnoxious Twitters. That’s pretty, that’s as bad as it gets. I don’t like to screw with people too much. Brianna: Oh come on, it’s fun!
Alex: I mean I Twitter-jack, that’s pretty awesome.
Brianna: So, like, when you first started out did being so confined in a van ever cause hardships between you guys? It’s like all those guys in a van had to be hard a little bit.
Alex: Yeah, when we were in a van it was like, at times, I mean, you know it’s like brothers; you know you fight with your brothers. Not super bad drama but yeah, I mean, definitely arguments and stuff. Like with dudes, you’re sweaty, frustrated, tired, you know…it happens.
Brianna: So what’s like the best one-liner a fan has ever used on you?
Alex: Best one-liner. Umm… Brianna: There had to of been quite a few.
Alex: [Thinks a moment]Wow, uhhh…I can’t even think of one right now. We get a lot of weird stuff. Brianna: I’m sure.
Alex: We get a lot of weird stuff.
Brianna: So, what’s next for The Cab?
Alex: We’re going to finish up the album after this tour and then, uh, get back to touring. We’re definitely going to focus on the album, we worked really hard on it. We want to put out something we’re really proud of. Brianna: Are you guys going for, like, a different sound, or…?
Alex: It’s definitely the same band but it’s… Brianna: Is it going to be poppy still?
Alex: Yeah, it’ll be very, I mean, it’s very R&B;/rock which is always, very pop. Brianna: You should try some rap on there maybe, kick it up a bit.
[Laughter]
Brianna: So, out of anyone in the band, who do you believe would show someone the best time on a date?
Alex: Uhhhh…out of the other four, umm, probably Marshall. Brianna: Why?
Alex: I don’t know, I feel like…I feel like me and him are more of the ladies’ men in the band so I feel like he’ll take, he’ll go the extra mile to make…[Begins talking to a friend about food. Way to stay focused, Alex]
Brianna: Okay, so how have, like, some of the member changes affected you because I know you have, like, Joey Thunder [bassist] now.
Alex: Well I mean, it’s like a…well the hardest part was losing a friend, you know? Umm, the music, the main writers are still there, you know, me and Marshall still write most of it. Umm, and obviously, you know, it affected the fans; a lot of the fans were bummed out. Other than that, it was just bad losing a friend, you know? Getting used to them not being around.
Brianna: Right. Okay, so for my last question: it’s the last day of Warped…so how do you plan to celebrate? Are you gonna do it big?
Alex: I’m probably gonna do it small. I’m probably gonna get off stage and go to bed and hopefully… Brianna: Take a nap [laughs]
Alex: Yeah. Hopefully wake up at home. I’ll probably say my goodbye’s and maybe have a few drinks, you know, keep it really, pretty mellow; I’m a mellow dude, so... Brianna: Well thank you so much for your time.
Alex: Thank you. You guys have a great rest of your day, okay? Brianna: Thanks, you too.
