My Paper Camera

MPC: My Paper Camera: Trevor, Erik, Spencer, Seth, and Gary.

Jessie: The obvious question... Briefly explain what defines My Paper Camera:
MPC: We definitely strive to be a band that is more thought-provoking in content than the average cookie-cutter powerpop band. We have hooks that you'll find yourself whistling, but there is also a strong, underlying passion and belief that definitely shows through our writing. Live shows are a big deal to us... we want kids to come out, dance, and have a good time with us but also take something from the music. We want the hope and love we've found in Jesus Christ to show in who we are as people, on and off stage.

Jessie: How do you describe your music to people?
MPC: Our EP release was the best show we've ever played. Not only was it a huge night for us, but we got to share it with our best friends. We rented out an old building downtown. It was a party.

Jessie: Favorite city/venue to play at?
MPC: Our favorite place to play is The Venue in Boise in front of the home crowd. We get to play with bands we really respect and have followed for a long time. And Mom's cooking is amazing...

Jessie: How is the economy bringing you down?
MPC: As far as the economy going down the drain, entertainment in the past has been a constant. Times get tough, and people want to feel better. We really haven't felt very affected in a negative way as far as our music goes. Gas prices are slightly higher, but kids are still coming out, and we definitely appreciate that.

Jessie: Do you have a specific music writing process?
MPC: Trevor comes up with the main idea for the songs... lyrics and basic structure, and everyone builds on that foundation. It's very collaborative. Each member contributes by writing their own creative parts on top of the song's basic foundation. Much of Trevor's lyrics are derived from his own life experiences.

Jessie: What are your goals as musicians?
MPC: Our main goal has always been to make a career out of doing what we love to do. We love playing music and the energy that comes from live shows. We want to get our music out to as many people as we can. We want to sustain a driven work ethic by touring relentlessly and continuing to develop our sound.

Jessie: So... who is your favorite photographer?
MPC: Our good friend Katie Benton has been doing a lot of live shots for us lately and has also designed our EP cover. Also, our friend Tim Riley has taken some great promos for us. He is very creative and has a great eye.

Jessie: Will there be a CD out soon?
MPC: YES! We just released our first EP "Faces in a Magazine." Right now, we are only selling it at shows, but we should have it up on iTunes within the next couple months.

Jessie: Is your camera really made of paper?
MPC: Hahaha There is actually a story behind the name. Since a lot of our songs have to do with experiences we've gone through, the "paper camera" actually represents a journal. The pages of a journal are a lot like snapshots of our lives at any given moment.
