Garrett: How has being from PA influenced or shaped your band?
Steve: I think one of the things about being from a town like Pennsylvania is the fact that it's a hard working and blue-collar town. It's evident everywhere, people in Pittsburgh work so much harder for things. It's more than a mentality, it's a lifestyle. You don't see too many bands leaving Pittsburgh, for whatever reason, and that makes it harder for all the other bands, whereas an area like Orange County spawns bands all the time. So I think it's given us a hardworking mentality, made it harder for us, but makes us want to succeed even more.
Garrett: What is the one thing that you want the fans to take away from your music?
Steve: I want them to take anything they can away. Whether it's the fact that they connect with the lyrics, or the drum parts, or the fact that we break ourselves every night. If someone enjoys our music for any reason, we've done our job.
Garrett: How many hours have you sat in a tattoo shop?
Steve: Myself, not nearly long enough - only a measly 5. Todd and Josh however have seen at least 5 times that much.
Garrett: What is your favorite movie and how many times have you seen it?
Steve: I'd have to say Tombstone. We quote that movie every day of our lives. And I'd like to say I'm upwards of about forty times, which might not be much comparative to other people, but for me, that's a lot.
Garrett: Who in the band is most likely to survive in the wilderness?
Steve: I think the obvious choice is Josh, but I'm confident if necessary, every single member of this band could survive.
Garrett: What is the best advice that you have ever received?
Steve: "Don't be an idiot." - The Office haha i don't know, but that's about the best i can come up with right now.
Garrett: What does your perfect day look like?
Steve: My perfect day...a giant fest where we are opening for Metallica circa 1985, Pantera is co-headlining, free Monster Khaos is being given away along with made-to-order mexican food, all of our friends, and friends bands are there playing too, and me, my (future) wife, family, and Jesus are all hanging out having the best time ever. Wait does perfect day also mean what heaven will be like?
Garrett: What is the funniest band that you have gone on tour or shared a stage with? Why?
Steve: I'd have to say Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. Watching Dallas and his antics every night was great. That whole band just looks like they're having so much fun the entire time, so you can't not have fun.
Garrett: What does your band pride itself on most?
Steve: I think honesty. Who we really are, we can't hide that. We've had opportunities to cut corners and slit some throats to get ahead, and we haven't. We don't write music to be trendy or jump on any bandwagons, we don't move on stage because it's what we planned to do ahead of time. These are things that just happen because we are who we say we are. I think a lot of people try to put bands on pedestals and pretend they are perfect people or perfect Christians or whatever. Hang out with us for five minutes and that thought will be out of your mind, but I hope that if you do hang out with us, you'll see a good bunch of dudes trying to figure it all out like everyone else. We just headbang more than you do, haha.
Garrett: Touring a lot is an understatement for you guys. Describe what touring is like for your band. What has been your most memorable experience?
Steve: Touring consists of a lot of these things: Wal-Mart parking lots, fast food, and un-showered, unshaved, head-banging, hair-whipping metal. I think one of the most memorable experiences is when we stopped in Louisiana overnight on the way to Mobile, Alabama. We crashed at our friend Aaron's farm for the night, and during the next morning, it torrential rained. We got up to leave around noon, and found that our van and trailer was half on grass, half on gravel and completely stuck. So me, Josh, Aaron, Geoff, and Giuseppe are trying to push the van out, Todd is in the van, and suddenly the sky opens up again and the most random, insane rainstorm happens. I'm talking about horizontal rain, lightning striking 30 feet away, whipping wind, and it's freezing. Scott from With Blood Comes Cleansing even got out to help, but our back tire sunk into a two foot hole, so finally, completely soaked to the bone, we gave it up and called a tow truck. I've never seen rain like that. I should also mention that we were up to our ankles in mud and lost some shoes because of it. Thanks Louisiana rain, you suck.
Garrett: Give me a good Marco story...
Steve:Something about making Marco put his coat over his head and chase people around the first time we ever met him. He was wearing a charles manson shirt, and i was afraid haha.
