Evaline

Jessie: So, you might get this a lot, but where did the name Evaline come from?
Richard: Well im sworn to secrecy but ill tell you anyways. when a member of the band who will remain nameless was little he would hump pillows.... well not plural, he would hump PILLOW... (he was monogamous with his pillow humping you see... a one pillow man you might say...) well basically he had this pillow he carried around with him everywhere and he would hump it when he felt inclined to and believe it or not he called that pillow by the name of evaline... so having heard this story from his mom years ago we all decided to change our name from holiday to evaline. there was no reason not to...

Jessie: Hahahahaha, that must've been a hot pillow! That may just be the best band name story in the history of band name stories. So when did the pillow-humper and the rest of Evaline begin to make music together?
Richard: The core of the band started with steve, christian and dom. they grew up going to the same elementary schools... i think they went to the same 6th grade camp and met by some twisted game of "lets turn the like out and pretend your a girl" (i dont know that part for a fact but i have my suspicions) they bonded rather quickly after the heavy petting and started playing music together their freshmen/sophomore year. i was a grade below them so come their jr. year which would be my sophomore year i joined... i was promised 10-dollars and loads of after practice orgies... i never received either... i was ok with it once i heard the pillow story.

Jessie: Oh goodness, this is great. You guys seem very comfortable with your sexuality. Did you guys have some good bonding time during Warped Tour this year?
Richard: By asking if we have had good "bonding" time i feel that u want me to tell you about all the free love we make in the open quarters of our bus... but im not going to for the sake of the children who might be reading this.... but for the bigger sake of the interview we bonded like rabbits in heat. ever day on warped we'd go out and pick the sweatiest group of people dressed in all black and had them come on our bus and lay sprawled out completely in the way... after a while we started calling them escape the fate... (laughter) we shared a bus with those gents this 2007 warped tour so we did some deep seeded bonding with them as well... i jumped into, and swamp in, a swamp for Omars birthday... it smelt so bad... up to my shins in muck and the water was full of some kind of long slimy grass that tickled ur under area as u made the slightest of motion... that part was nice, im not going to lie to u... i liked it... warped is hot and long... everyone gets sick with some deathly plague and spreads it to everyone else despite the endless efforts to shun the sick like they were a leprosy ridden stowaway. so bonding happens by default. u see your friend fall... you laugh with your other friend as they try to get up... as you see its good old fashion bonding. cut throat maybe but bonding nontheless. the strong survive right? (side note for thos who are making them: im usually the one who falls)

Jessie: Ah very nice, ETF's a nice group of guys. That swamp experience sounds... tasty! I noticed Steven (bass) playing his bass with a bow, now that's raw originality! Whose idea was it to use a bow on an instrument other than your cello?
Richard: Steve has many many tricks up his fat sleeves...

Jessie: That he does, so how's the new record coming along? Anything out of the ordinary?
Richard: Well its far too early in the writing process for me to say much. when we write its quite a tedious process. every hand in, which more often then not leads to more diversity. the record will be what it becomes... were not going for anything in-particular, we have no set theme, were not trying to sound any certain way, were just letting it become what it should become. writing what comes out.

Jessie: Sounds classy indeed. Do you have any influences or inspirations for the record or for your music in general?
Richard: Life. Call that vague call it what you will but my life and the lives around me are ever changing, sometimes in ways not visible to most. in many ways i am not that little boy from the ep... in many ways im probably an even littler boy... yet i have gone threw so much in the pas 14 or so months that its high time for us to be working on this album...matter a fact... you might say weve been working on this album our whole lives. everything that has happened to us, in us, or around us have played a part in what's to come.

Jessie: Wow, now that is even inspiring to me. What would you say is your favorite part about being on the road?
Richard: the road is a double edged sword for most... it takes us far from our stationary loves and comforts, but it allows us to find a center within ourselves, a place of unconditional comfort. not everyone can find that and not everyone can last. i love being on the road. i love exploring new towns. i love trying new foods in those new towns, and i love finding good used bookshops. most of which have amazing store owners with wonderful wisdom to share, or random nonsensical stories which are just as good sometimes.

Jessie: The road sounds like a place i'd like to be. What are some of your favorite towns to play in?
Richard: as far as our favorite pace to play id have to say Montreal. the kids there are amazing and the city is beautiful along with the culture. id say weve been fortunate to be well accepted wherever we go. so we send out our love to everyone who makes it a point to come out and have a good time with us, cuz when it comes down to it thats pretty much what its all about. also when in montreal... get putin (im not sure of the spelling) but its not the most healthy snack in the world but its amazing!

Jessie: I've never been, but I'll definitely try some putin when I'm there. Alright so some random questions are a must! What is your most embarrassing life memory?
Richard: this probably isnt the most embarrassing but its the first thing that came to mind. one time in an interview i let it slip about my pillow evaline... (laughter) no really.. probably most of my recent most embarrassing moments would by with my mate Dugin. he came out as our slave the past placebo and warped tours. when we go into shops he has to touch everything. i dont get embarrassed easy but when were at a farmers market and he asks this poor hold man selling beads which one will feel best coming out of his rectum ... i cant help but shake my head a bit and laugh it off. oh! also i was once showering alone at a strangers house and lil did i know when i walked, bear, down stairs (air drying) as i grabbed my clothes... i stumble upon the good fortune of getting to meet these strangers. "hi, your dont know me... this is really awkward... i wish i had clothes on right now..."

Jessie: Hahah that's awesome, quite a surprise for the strangers. I knew Evaline was yours! ;] What's your favorite movie of all time
? Richard: i dont know if i have a favorite of all time but i love: love me if you dare, funny face, amelie, united states of leland, a very long engagement, magnolia, i heart huckabees, french kiss, cq, science of sleep, and cant forget to mention train spotting. i could go on and on.

Jessie: Good movies. Trainspotting is one of my personal favorites. Alright, so that's it for questions. Thank you so much for your time! Do you have any last words for our readers?
Richard: I wont be saying my last words for a very long time... and even then ill find a way to keep talking.
