I was bound to eventually write this article. Best food in Seattle (and the surrounding areas): The Kelly Mason edition. I felt obligated to post this as soon as possible after Jessie's intro, so feel free to contribute if you know of any hidden gems that you would like to share with RCA.
Now, I wouldn't call myself a food connoisseur, but if there is a delicious (and cheap!) place to eat in Seattle, you can bet your sweet patootie that I have eaten there. Well, aside from Mama's Mexican Kitchen, which I hear is phenomenal, but I don't usually end up in Beltown (unless you count the time I took the wrong bus downtown and had to walk three miles into the city) so just wait until I turn 21 to hear about that one.
I am pretty specific about my locations, so watch for that! Also, I am kind of kidding about eating EVERYWHERE, so if you have any suggestions then you should probably leave a comment and I will do what I can to experience the awesomeness you attempt bestow upon me.
For delicious pizza and amazing salads, go to
Pagliacci Pizza on the Ave in the U District. They put your slice back in the oven for a couple of minutes when you order it so it's nice and hot and crisp AND delicious. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The one on Broadway is good too, but they have not mastered the art of pizza crisping, unfortunately. Either that or they just don't care. Probably the latter.
The
Australian Pie Company in Burien is a unique little bakery on 152nd, and every person I have introduced it to requests a pit stop whenever we are passing through. They make meat pies with super flaky crusts, along with some other Australian oddities. To illustrate, they once had a
kangaroo scrotum bag for sale.
Taco Del Mar is the best fast-ish Mexican food restaurant, but only the Burien location. These guys are franchised, so they can pretty much do whatever they want as long as they adhere to a few specific company-wide standards, and still call themselves Taco Del Mar. I have been to some
bad TDMs, but this one makes up for any damage the other ones have done to me over the past 20 years of my life. They don't sell beer like the one in Southcenter, but I guess that doesn't matter to me for another three months, anyway. w00t.
If you don't mind close quarters and shitty service, then
Thai Tom will surely wet your Thai whistle. Although they were recently closed for violating a long list of health codes, it was no more than a week before they reopened (with undoubtedly no changes from before), but hey-- I've never gotten sick from eating their food, so the Tom and I are still on speaking terms.
Dick's Drive-In. Need I say more? Another excellent burger place is
Frugals in Kent/Renton. It looks like a space ship.
That's all I have for now, but I am always trying new things. Watch for AWESOME FOOD PART TWO in the next couple of months.
