REST IN PEACE already, MJ!

As a music fan (maybe that's an understatement...), I was sad like everyone else in the world when I found out that Michael Jackson had passed away. His death consumed our television screens, littered the topic of most bulletins on myspace & facebook, and occupied a space on the most discussed word(s) on twitter. His death was a shock and he will be missed. Today is July 27, 2009, and he's still being discussed... It's been over 4 weeks since the King of Pop passed away, and yet, has he had an opportunity to ACTUALLY rest in peace?

This summer, I've been spending my days in an internship centered around the youth of our world. My major is Adolescent Education so knowing & being with youth is what I'm going to do with my life. After spending a week away at a camp in North Pennsylvania with a bunch of junior highers, I realized that there's more to life than knowing if MJ's children are really his or if his children's mother is going to be their guardian. HONESTLY, life is meaningless if there is no love and hope. This is probably why I'm such a huge music fan. Music with real passion that make you believe in something GREATER than yourself is what we're all about.

So, why are we wasting our lives worrying if MJ's money is all lost or whatever else? Can't we just let Michael Jackson rest in peace or is that physically impossible? The solution? SUPPORT your local music scene... each band has hope and love for music worth changing your own personal life. LOCAL BANDS can't survive without fans... fans like you. I could name drop a few bands who've changed ACTUALLY my life, but all i'm asking is for you to be bigger than the gossip that could consume our music world forever.

AND SERIOUSLY, let Michael Jackson rest in PEACE already!
