There's really no place I would have rather been than at Sasquatch this weekend, but seeing as I couldn't convince myself to cough up the money until a week before the event (and I didn't want to request a press pass until the new site was up- at which point it was too late to even ask... though I did anyway and got denied), I was not able to attend. Fortunately for me, Memorial Day weekend is never dull in Seattle, and to replace the void that was created by the lack of Sasquatch-age, I went to Folklife (and Pike Place, and Vancouver B.C.) instead!
I am definitely not ashamed to admit that the reason Folklife excites me the most is because the FOOD is so amazing. Among the sustenance I inserted into my face-hole were roasted corn, an elephant ear, kettle corn, and Mango lemonade. I usually go for the Piroshky and Shishkaberry stands, but I decided to switch it up this year (and subsequently go for slightly less adventurous foods) and my belief that it is impossible to go wrong with the food vendors at Folklife still holds strong.
Oh yeah, the music was great too. Not totally my style, but enjoyable nonetheless. And the stands with jewelry/clothes/over-sized kitchenware provided a solid three hours of entertainment. The only thing I really had to complain about was how expensive everything was, but what else can you expect from independent artists who make everything by hand? I didn't end up buying anything (although I was tempted by $35 mini-unicorns and feathery princess tiaras), but I still enjoyed looking!
I am curious to hear your stories. Share your Folklife experiences in the comments! Since I'm sure 90% of the greater Seattle area went, this probably won't be too hard.
