Punk Goes Classic Rock: Just another reason to rip your ears out of your head

This blog had to happen (and everybody knows it), so if you are a sucker for the Punk Goes _____ albums then I suggest you don't read these next few paragraphs.

Fearless Records are really milking this series for all it's [not] worth [anymore]. Back in the day, the first Punk Goes Pop album introduced my ears to Thrice, and it pretty much opened the gateway to the whole genre that has captivated so many years of my life. Ahh, nostalgia. Rufio, Thrice, Yellowcard… those were the days.

BUT THIS--THIS "PUNK GOES CLASSIC ROCK" CRAP--IS THE WORST “ALBUM” I HAVE EVER HEARD. THE QUOTES MEAN I DON’T TAKE IT SERIOUSLY ENOUGH TO CONSIDER IT AN ALBUM. CAPS LOCK MEANS I’M ANGRY BLARGGHH.

Ahem, moving on.

Sure, there are a couple of decent tracks on the compilation. VersaEmerge's cover of Paint it Black is decent; then again I am partial to Sierra Kusterbeck's voice and would probably like anything they chose to cover, so let's just disregard this sentence altogether. I’m sure there’s another good song hidden somewhere, but my Internet is hardly functional and I can’t find another tolerable track.

Forever the Sickest Kids coveringCrazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne? No thanks. Never Shout Never attempting to emulate one of the greatest songs ever written, Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody? PLEASE. How about Blessthefall (one of my least favorite bands, by the way) covering Aerosmith's Dream On? Please make it stop!

Punk Goes Classic Rock is an attempt by Fearless to keep the series alive, when they are, in fact, just running out of ideas. How about we stay out of the "CLASSIC" section with flash-in-the-pan bands (with a couple of exceptions, though I won't say which ones bwahaha) and go back to making compilations of pop covers from "punk" bands... OR BETTER YET, approach some pop artists and have them cover "punk" songs. Now THAT is something I would listen to.

Haven't heard PGCR yet? Well, unfortunately for you, the entire thing is streaming on Myspace now. Listen to it and share your thoughts in the comments.
