Villains, Villains, Villains...

There hasn’t been very many times in the last year or two that I could honestly say I was proud of the Seattle scene. There’s no denying that our scene had hit rock bottom. Between some of the largest local bands breaking up and kids just not going to shows, some would go as far to say we don’t have a scene anymore. Slowly bands have been making a return and more bands have been formed, but one band that has stuck it out is Moneta. This amazing band made its debut in early 2007 and within a matter of a couple short years, despite member changes and challenges along the way, they’ve returned better than ever.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing these guys since some of their first shows, but never have I seen them perform to this extent. I’ve seen my fair share of Moneta shows but when they came out on stage, they exerted a happiness I’ve rarely seen from local bands. That stage is where they deserved to be, headlining at a packed music venue that they’ve frequently played, but something was different. They were different, and it wasn’t the member changes.

Playing favorites from their older CDs, along with newer ones many didn’t know, they played a complete set that no one could look away from. Their show has always been one I’ve loved, full of energy and friends constantly coming on stage. You could come into one of their shows upset with the world, but leave happy because you forget about yourself around them. Their happiness is contagious.

Joining Moneta for their infamous CD release was Me Vs Myself, Between These Lines, and Sunderlyn. If you’ve never listened to any of the supporting bands, make sure you check them out and come to one of their shows, because they’ll blow you away!
