Bands that don't suck (part one): Freelance Whales

It's Saturday night, and I am sitting at my mom's house watching a terribly depressing movie called Born Into Brothels. The movie is basically about children who live in the Red Light District in Calcutta, India. An Englishwoman teaches them photography and the children learn to see the world through through new eyes.... I literally can't keep my eyes from the screen for long enough to write a complete sentence in this blog. THIS IS TAKING FOREVER.

Anyway, the whole purpose of this blog is to share an artist with you guys that I just recently became familiar with. Byron McKoy (of Hide & Seek Clothing) sent me a mix CD-- OLD SCHOOL, RIGHT?-- but there are a lot of great artists on the disc that I had never heard before. The first one I want to share with you guys is...

Freelance Whales. Strange name, I know, but they are great. Think Owl City plus sophistication minus crappy lyrics and mediocre melodies. Freelance Whales are from Queens, NY, and they will be releasing their album, Weather Vanes, on April 13th. Check out their Myspace page for music and tour dates. Incidentally, they will be playing at the Crocodile Cafe in Seattle on the 28th of this month. I'm going to be out of town, so you all must go so I can live vicariously through you.

K gotta watch the rest of this movie before I hit the hay. If you are interested, it's On Demand right now... Just sayin.

peace yallz.
