All I can say is this: OH MY GOD I WISH I WERE STILL IN KEYSTONE, COLORADO RIGHT NOW. These past few days have been insane. I didn't bring my camera because I didn't want to break/lose 2000 dollars worth of photo gear, but I DID get a couple of photos and videos on my iPhone.
For those of you who don't know (which is probably all of you), 100k is an event that Zumiez sends its top-selling employees on as a reward for selling over $100,000 in merchandise. The more you sell, the more you get back, and the employee who sells the most over the course of the year gets hooked UP.
Here's a recap of everything that went down:
Monday:
Woke up at 3:45 AM to catch a 6:00 flight to the Denver airport. My friend and I watched
Biodome on the airplane, and I decided that 3 hours of sleep the night before was enough to not have to nap on the plane. Bad idea. Anywho, from Denver there was a 2 hour bus ride to Keystone, on which we watched
Out Cold to pump ourselves up for the festivities of the next two days.
Before being dropped off at our lodges, we stopped at the Keystone convention center to pick up our Dakine bags that were literally stuffed full of product. I think I ended up with four beanies, a godawful yellow/orange trucker hat, three t-shirts, a sample Burton sweatshirt, two terrible CDs, Skullcandy headphones, a ton of random accessories, and the chapstick that saved my life. The top 150 employees in the company got extra goodies on top of the backpack, including two skateboard decks, some Von Zipper sunglasses, Globe AND Skullcandy headphones, and other stuff I don't remember because I wasn't in the top 150. Zumiez definitely knows how to give back to their employees.
AND THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.
I stayed with three other girls from my district in a lodge called
Hidden River. It was a little bit of a bus ride to the main area (River Run), but our lodge was pretty big... and it had a steam room. I don't think anybody used the steam room, but just the fact that it was there was pretty cool. Har har har.
On Monday night everyone met at the mountain house for a night full of food, kegs of Pabst (yuck), mingling with Zumiez employees and executives, and dancing. Unfortunately everyone had a mandatory curfew of 1 AM, but the event was fun nonetheless.
I definitely slept like a rock that night.
Tuesday:
Tuesday was action-packed! I woke up pretty early and waited in line for an hour and a half to demo a
Ride Compact snowboard with some of next year's Burton bindings. I don't remember the name of them. The funny part was the fact that there was absolutely no line to get the snowboard, but it took AN HOUR AND A HALF just to get bindings. Oh well, it was worth it in the end. I rode with some friends from my old store for a few hours, then had to get ready for dinner and the awards ceremony that night.
Holy $%^&*(*&^%$#$%^&*. This is when the night gets awesome.
The theme of the entire event was "The Future is Now," so each district's costumes had to be, in some way, futuristic. Somehow "Canadian Dodgeball Team" ended up as our theme, so everyone was wearing red baseball tees, red shorty shorts (remember: most Zumiez employees are dudes), and knee-high (or in my case, thigh-high) socks with red stripes. On top of all that, our district manager required that our costumes be "bedazzled." My old manager went above and beyond and spent 60 dollars on a bedazzler, but most of us just used glitter glue and spray paint to make our costumes look awesome.
The awards ceremony was absolutely ridiculous. The top ten salespeople in the company got personalized Lib Tech snowboards, but the number one dude got $53,000 worth of swag: skate decks, snowboards, an LRG Macbook, an Obey mural made by Shepard Fairey just for him, and a ton of other stuff. Did I mention he sold $604,898 in Zumiez crap over the course of the year? I'd say he definitely earned everything he was given.
After founders from pretty much every company imaginable went up onstage and introduced themselves, the president of Skullcandy (headphones) announced that he had some special guests for us. Now I'm just going to cut to the chase; I don't remember exactly which order this all happened in, but I do know that it was all awesomeness in rapid succession and I was way too excited to function.
First, Flavor Flav comes out with his stupidly large clock and starts being his cracked-out self. FLAVOR FLAAAAV! Then this DJ, whose name I can't remember, came out and freestyled about anything people in the crowd held up for him (masks, light sabers, etc). This dude holds the world record for longest freestyle, which was something like 10 and a half hours straight. He was definitely impressive. Next we had the DJ from the Beastie Boys come out, and then Heffo from NOFX. Nobody really performed, but they all had something to say to the number one salesperson in the company and it was raaaadddd.
Just when we thought it was all over,
SNOOP DOGG comes out on stage and performs
Gin & Juice and
Drop it Like it's Hot with the number one dude onstage the entire time.
Like I said, I didn't bring my camera, but I got this picture with my phone:

BAM SNOOP DOGG. All he talked about was smoking weed. I guess that was to be expected!
Other notable attendees were: Bam Margera, Rob Dyrdek and Drama, Tony Alva, BJ Penn, Eric Koston, Ryan Sheckler, Geoff Rowley, and pretty much every other pro skateboarder and snowboarder imaginable.
The after-party consisted of a giant foam pit, a mechanical bull, an oxygen bar, gambling (with fake money that you could enter raffles with), and lots of dancing.
Words can't even describe the awesomeness. Hopefully some decent photos will surface soon! For now, here are a few pics from
Transworld to give you a better idea of the night's festivities:

Well, Zumiez, you just *may* have hooked me in for another year.
