Tyler's Tasty Top 10

Considering this is going to be my first blog entry, I guess it's only fitting that you get a judgment of my musical tastes via my 2009 top album list. As I was thinking about the music I've been listening to all year, I looked at my iTunes to see what dominated my plays and sadly it wasn't very much music from albums released in 2009. But here goes nothing, and I hope to get more involved in RCA as its San Diego representative ha. Bask in it.

Top 10 Albums of 2009

10. Eye Alaska - Genesis Underground

I had nine solid albums and I was looking for a number 10, when the thought of baby-making R&B;-ish rock came to mind and I decided that Eye Alaska deserved to be on my list for simply making me want to bump and grind, no matter what the circumstance.

9. The Devin Townsend Project - Addicted

Devin Townsend has been one of my favorite musicians since I started listening to him back in 10th grade. With a career spanning 20-ish years, he still knows how to create a damn amazing album.

8. Say Anything - Say Anything

I had higher hopes for this album since I'm a huge Beem-dog fanboy, but it sort of fell short for me. I guess not short enough not be on my top ten though ha.

7. Brand New - Daisy

Brand New is one of my girlfriends favorite bands, and typically I just dislike any band she loves just for the fun of it, but I decided "What the heck?" and gave it a shot. As it turns out this was a super interesting album, and I fell in love with Jesse Lacey's voice and the way this album was recorded.

6. Tides of Man - Empire Theory

I can't say enough about the raw talent of this band. They opened up for Dance Gavin Dance and Emarosa on the Squash the Beef Tour and I was completely enthralled by their musicianship, which led me to purchase their CD and a bitchin' shirt. When I listen to them I hear a combination of Circa Survive plus Coheed and Cambria, and it's pretty awesome.

5. Castevet - Summer Fences

During the Fall of 09, I went through and still am in this emo-revival/post-hardcore phase and this is when my love of Castevet blossomed.

4. Trophy Scars - Bad Luck

I stumbled across Trophy Scars on myspace by random luck and found them to be one of the most interesting bands I've ever heard. I started out listening to their older CD, "Alphabet. Alphabets" and became addicted to the emotions thrusted upon me by Jerry Jones and "Bad Luck" is no exception. Except its a badass story about two lovers.

3. Snowing - Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit EP

The first song I heard by snowing was "Pump Fake" off of a sampler CD i grabbed from Warped Tour. They sparked my dive into that emo-revival movement and their do-it-yourself sound and amazing lyrics keep this album in constant play on my computer.

2. Closure in Moscow - First Temple

Closure in Moscow is like a mix between The Mars Volta and a funky 70's bass groove. I needn't say more. Get this album if you want your ears to love you.

1. Dance Gavin Dance - Happiness

Ah yes, my number one, Dance Gavin Dance. This may be a biased opinion since they are pretty much my favorite band, but I'm pretty sure no one can deny that this album is a definite top 10 on anyone's list. The pure musicianship of this band just amazes me. The drums, the bass, the guitars and the vocals are all top notch. The riffs played by Will are insane for lack of a better term, and on top of that he's a badass screamer. And they know how to get the party started.

So there it is, my top 10. I hope all you RCA-ers enjoyed it. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
