New music day!

Usually when a new album comes out from a band I am generally "meh" about or have never heard before, I wait awhile until I am in the mood to listen to new music. Of course, owning a website dedicated to music and delivering the latest music news/info to readers makes this difficult. Somehow I manage. Colleen is a lifesaver in this respect.

Today was a little bit different.

I went to my usual music acquiring venue (err..) and picked up three new albums today: Fun. - Aim and Ignite, Say Anything's self-titled album that came out today, and some weird Kanye West "Graduation: The Musical" album that I was intrigued by.

As usual, the Kanye album sucked. It was just a bunch of remixes and live songs that I think was put together by a fan? Not sure how it made its way to It Leaked (cat's out of the bag now), but I hope it goes away soon.

Fun. and Say Anything have been pleasant surprises. I have been hearing good things about Fun. for a while now, and I finally got the chance to check out their Myspace yesterday. Shortly after I began playing the first track, I started kicking myself because I didn't realize that this band was fronted by the singer of one of my all-time favorite bands, The Format. Don't ask me how this tidbit of information slipped under the radar. Fun. is slightly more upbeat than the Format was, but I definitely fell in love instantly. I highly recommend their album Aim and Ignite.

And Say Anything... Well, let's just say I feel like an idiot for not jumping on the bandwagon and being uber-excited for their self-titled release, because I am completely enthralled. Instrumentally, this music is unique from their previous release, In Defense of the Genre, but frontman Max Bemis' distinct vocals pull it all together and remind me of the love affair I once had with the band. Metaphorically, of course. This album is definitely a step forward for these guys.

What new music have you been listening to lately? Anybody have thoughts on the new Almost album, Monster Monster yet? That is next on my to-listen-to list. ;D
