It's 12:02 AM on Thursday night/Friday morning, and I am fighting 9 hour jet lag to post and let you all know that I survived my trip to Europe. It feels so good to be home! My soundtrack for this post is Paramore's Brand New Eyes, which came out on Tuesday, but I haven't been able to listen to it until now. So far I give it two thumbs up.
I was hoping to have more blog time in Europe, but every time I had the time to settle down and write anything out I realized that I was in Europe and probably should have been doing something else. This "something else" happens to include watching three seasons of Weeds, but that's beside the point.
Now I will try to summarize the rest of my trip.
Brussels, Belgium is where I left off with my last post, I believe. Our hostel was in an amazing location, but was lacking in the maintenance department. The toilet seat was missing, the handle fell off the bathroom door, the bathroom window looked like it was stained with blood, none of the outlets in the room worked (including those that powered the main lights), and the window above the bed didn't close. Oh yeah, and whoever stayed there before us left us an interesting magazine (*cough* porn *cough*) under the nightstand. Aside from all that, Belgium was awesome. My boyfriend's best friend is studying abroad there, so he was our tour guide. We ate lots of waffles and chocolate, toured a palace, wandered around a giant church, and took lots of pictures. Those will surface soon...
After Brussels we took the chunnel (funniest word ever?) to Cambridge University, which is about an hour outside of London, England. We stayed in an unnecessarily nice bed and breakfast, rented bikes, got lost in the botanical gardens, explored the University, and took more pictures.
From Cambridge we took a train to London, which was AMAZING!!!!! I wish we could have stayed longer. We went to the Tate modern art museum, took trains everywhere, spend five hours in Harrod's (biggest department store I have ever seen), "shopped" (without purchasing anything-- London is expensive), and saw a play called the 39 Steps. The playwright took an Alfred Hitchcock movie and adapted it into a comedy, and it was hilarious. Over a period of couple of days Simon and I developed an addiction to video roulette, and at one point we were even up 12 Pounds! Then his classic "bet it all on black" strategy failed him, and we moved onto something else.
I thought I would be able to finish this tonight, but I am too tired. I will try to finish my synopsis tomorrow!
