My Dearest Condolences to the children of The Scene.
I say this with hope for revival.
I'm so tired of the word "trend" and it's misproper placement. Look at what we've all turned into. I bet whoever is reading this has been called a hipster at least once in the recent year. Not to mention has been a scene kid at some point. I remember when being scene was popular. The most important thing to rack up those nifty "scene points" was to go to as many shows as you could. Scene kids were everywhere, hyping up every local band, getting an overload of scene points, too many to fit in the skin tight pockets of their jeans.
But what's this you say? The scene has nothing to do with scene kids? This is where you're wrong. Just simply look at it this way: Shows were selling out left and right, and local bands were getting raped (in a good way) for total plays via Myspace and Purevolume. Kids and adults cared about going to shows and watching their favorite bands play. They enjoyed being in the scene and were starstruck when meeting the singer of a band that lived just 10 miles from them. We all remember these days, before the hipster trend came into the picture. But you know what's cool now? To not care. It's so damn cool to not give a shit about anything. Who needs to go to shows, if I went to a show, that means I care about music. But I can't care cause that's not cool. And I'd much rather spend my money on a new pair of skinny jeans from Buffalo Exchange anyway. That's a trend man... It's not healthy to not care about anything anyway. Besides, deep down inside, you care way too much for your own good.
And the scene, wherever it may be resting it's weary soul... The scene is not a trend. Crunkcore and other bogus new music genres are a trend though... But music in general is not. We should never be too cool to go to a show or too cool to like new music. There are plenty of great bands out there today: A Hope For Home (my personal favorite,) Hexxus, The Sky Electric, Again and Again, and many others. These guys put their sweat and tears into their music and sacrifice everything, including health insurance, to do what they love. Some bands are obviously in it for popularity and money, but not everyone is like that. So get on myspace and listen to the bands you once respected and enjoyed listening to. And go to a damn show!!!! AND check this out: http://www.myspace.com/itsyourscene2009
