PHOTO POST: Take Action Tour 2010: There For Tomorrow @ El Corazon 2/24
Well, dudes and dudettes, I finally sucked it up and went to a show last night, but I could only stay for There For Tomorrow due to the fact that I had to study for the finance quiz I had this morning. To make up for the fact that I couldn't stay for long, I took 150 pictures of There For Tomorrow, and I put about 25 of them up on my
Flickr. The lovely Jasenka Gracic's boyfriend tattooed the manager of the tour in the upstairs of the venue, but that's another story.
The lighting at El…

PHOTO DUMP: European Escapades part 1
Is everyone enjoying the Olympics so far? Watching bobsled after bobsled flip over on that icy track has... well, made me want to ride a roller coaster, but it has also scared the living hell out of me. Seeing peoples' heads slide on ice at 90 miles-per-hour sends chills down my spine.
Local speed-skater Apolo Ohno had a couple of intense races tonight, and he took home the bronze medal! Woot woot. I think I heard the announcer say that he now holds more medals than any other winter Olympics athlete, and that this is his third Olympic games. Wow.…

More details about Minus the Bear's new album to come on Monday.

New Circa Survive song? Yep, this definitely deserves an entire blog post.
Forgive my insolence, but I only just now got around to listening to
Circa Survive's newest single,
Get Out. Tyler posted a news blurb about it a couple of days ago, but you REALLY need to hear this song.
I am seriously blown away right now. Circa have definitely taken their music in a of a different direction, and the result is AMAZING. Go listen to the track on the
Circa Survive website.
Circa Survive's album,
Blue Sky Noise, drops on

Also, the band will be playing a show at Chop Suey THIS SUNDAY (Valentine's Day) with

S-S-S-SUPERBOWL SUNDAY
Well everyone, Superbowl Sunday is here, and I still don't care about football. I
do, however, care about the commercials that cost

A couple of notable things that you may want to know about:
This is from a few days ago, but it's pretty huge in technology news. Basically, Steve Jobs is crazy(er than he already was). You know that whole "don't be evil" mantra that Google swears by? Jobs think it's

A college student's guide to everything food: PART II

Earlier in the year (and by "year" I mean sometime in 2009) I posted a blog about how much I
love food, and the fact that I made it "PART I" meant that I eventually had to make a Part II... So here goes nothing.
As an overloaded college student who would rather go out to eat on the Ave than make myself a balanced meal, I pretty much know the ins and outs of everywhere to eat within a one mile vicinity of my house. Actually, that's not true at all; I…

Let the bidding wars begin.

The dudes at Krochet Kids have made
seven hats that were made to help Haitian relief funds. These hats are up on
ebay now, and you can bid through tomorrow. One of them (shown above) is already up to $290, and it's only Thursday night!
ALL profits will be MATCHED by Krochet Kids International, and then given to World Concern and Partners in Health via the One Day's Wages Relief Fund.
Watch the video supporting this cause on
YouTube. It should answer any and all questions that you might have!
THIS FRIDAY: Healing For Haiti

This flyer is kind of huge and overbearing, but I would say that the cause is worth the space.
Definitely check out
Carly Henley, a friend of ours who is playing at 8:30, and our new friends in
Corner State, who are playing at 10:20.
The minimum donation for the show is only $5, and ALL proceeds go towards humanitarian efforts in Haiti. The event is being held at the
Columbia City Center in Seattle.
Here's the full lineup:
8:30-9:00 Carly Henley
9:10-9:35 Zach Trandum
9:45-10:10 Jennifer Newberry
10:20-10:45 Corner State (Myspace.com/CornerState)…

Concerts for a cause: Take Action Tour 2010
As a teenager, my two favorite times of the year were around Warped Tour and Take Action, because I knew that with those tours came kickass compilation albums at a low, low price of $6. Every year. These albums never let me down, and I would always end up finding a band to support that I had never given a chance before. To be quite honest, not much has changed between then and now-- I still get stoked for Warped Tour, and Take Action still does a great job of raising money for those in need. I mean seriously, how…

DON'T F*#& WITH 4CHAN

D-d-d-downloading spree!
In Halo terms this phrase would mean 5 downloads in a row without being killed (or shot by the RIAA, which has pretty much been given the ol' axe anyway), but in my terms it means that my iPhone is seriously lacking in the music department and all of my good albums are on my iPod-- which I accidentally left at work. And ALTHOUGH my brand new shiny Macbook Pro is in transit (apparently still in Redding, CA), I thought I would flex my Macbook's downloading muscle just one more time before it is replaced by a better, faster version…

End-of-the-year list ROUNDUP.
Everyone loves
End-of-the-Year lists, right? They appear everywhere at the end of the every year, and it's always exciting to listen to peoples' top picks that you have never heard before.
Music lists:
PureVolume's Top 20 Unsigned Bands of 2009. Tacoma's
He is We was the number one pick. Why am I not surprised? I can honestly say that I haven't heard of any of the other bands, so I think I have some research to do.
AbsolutePunk's Top 30 Albums of the Year. A couple of surprises, but nothing to pee your pants over.

New Man Down Medic! (Exclamation point to the 100th power)
Apparently Facebook is the new place for bands to hang out, because
Man Down Medic has posted a new song on their
profile. The track is titled
Not Enough Trouble, and the music player is on the lower left-hand side of the page.
I don't know what makes this song so great; maybe it's the fact that before Sam showed it to me he was talking about how he had no drama to write about. Then he wrote a song about his lack of inspiration. And it's awesome.
Just listen.

Vision & Valor part ways with Tony D'Angelo
From their
Myspace:
"Vision and valor parts ways with Tony
After much thought and deliberation, Corey, Aaron and Ryan have decided that they can no longer continue down a musical path with Tony D'Angelo. The reasons for this are many, however we are not here to slander or defame anyone. Simply put, we have always prided ourselves on being friendly, respectful, honest, ethical, and men of a strong, sound moral code. Thus we can no longer affiliate ourselves with someone who does not share these traits.
Please allow us this opportunity to say what an absolute joy it…

Kelly's songs of the week
Instead of attempting to throw a new song at you guys every day, one of us is going to post a blog every week telling you what we are currently jamming to. Sound good? Awesome.
Also, I just realized that I have an account on iMeem, so I made a playlist of these songs.
Click here if you are interested.

Krochet Kids are going... Zumiez?
The past week has been a confusing one for me, the unfortunate Zumiez employee, who opens freight boxes hoping not to be surprised with a shipment of Ed Hardy or Affliction (Sidenote: This has yet to happen at my store, but I hear Alderwood Mall is a different story). Lately, though, I have been pleasantly surprised with the new things that have come in: Glamour Kills' new line, as well as a ton of breast cancer awareness merch, Spacecraft, Casual Industrees, etc.
AND NOW WE HAVE KROCHET KIDS.
Backstory: I met Kohl Crecelius (one of the founders of KK)…
Winter hibernation has begun.
I think this city is out to get me. While I was in Europe my mother informed me of how awesome the weather was, and now everything has turned to.. you know what. What is this sunny-but-still-raining crap? I walked to class thinking there was a chance of nice weather, and then it started raining. *sigh* Seattle is welcoming me home.
On that note, school started on Wednesday, and I am back to being on my computer for hours upon hours every day. I should probably be writing my personal statement right now, but this is a lot less difficult.…

Back from the dead... Sort of. (Part 1)
It's 12:02 AM on Thursday night/Friday morning, and I am fighting 9 hour jet lag to post and let you all know that I survived my trip to Europe. It feels so good to be home! My soundtrack for this post is Paramore's Brand New Eyes, which came out on Tuesday, but I haven't been able to listen to it until now. So far I give it two thumbs up.
I was hoping to have more blog time in Europe, but every time I had the time to settle down and write anything out I realized that I was in…

On the train to Brussels...
I have to keep this short, because I am using Simon's laptop and this is the first time we have had internet since we have been in Europe and I'm sure he's itching to get back on here.
Paris was amazing! I took so many pictures that I will be posting once I get back home. We went to Versailles and climbed the Eiffel Tower, and avoided being pickpocketted on the Metro system (hooray for us). Right now we are on a train going 156 MPH, and apparently 1st class is 40 Euros cheaper than 2nd class if you are…

Last post until... Paris? Brussels? The airport?
Well, ladies and gentlemen, you will not be seeing me around here for a while, as I will be departing Seattle for Europe in approximately 14 hours and have decided not to bring my laptop. Backpacking with a lappy doesn't sound like such a fun time, and there are internet cafes everywhere in Europe, so I think I will survive! I'm going with my boo, Simon, and the tentative plan is to just bring a notebook and attempt to handwrite entries and then type them out at various cafes... buutttt I have no idea if that is going to work…

A few music videos that you need to watch before you die.
I thought that compiling a bunch of music videos that I enjoy and sharing them with you all would be interesting, but it took me nearly a week to come up with.. uh.. four videos? After that I couldn't even decide how to post them, so instead of making a list of videos in order of their awesomeness, I am just going to throw them all at you in random order. Well, besides Sic Transit Gloria by Brand New. That video is just amazing-- So I guess that's where I will start.

Our friends in
Man Without Wax have posted two new demo songs on their Myspace page. MWW are taking the summer off from tour to start demoing for their next record, and have posted a blog on their Myspace as well (which I can't link to at the moment for undisclosed reasons). Ch-ch-ch-check it…

I am the epitome of fail.
I have to leave for work in six minutes, but I haven't posted anything for a few days so I thought I'd check in.
Jessie and I had a little mini photoshoot a few days ago, and after we took some serious photos we went a little crazy with the black eyeliner. This was the result:
Incidentally, this is the only photo I have edited so far because I have been working nonstop since I got back from LA, but it made me lololol so I thought I would share.
Sorry, Jessie.
Real update later!

The Sky Electric and Hexxus - August 5th @ El Corazon
Like I said before, we are going to start covering more shows, and apparently Hexxus are our guinea pigs. Oink oink! Or maybe it's squee squee? BREEEEE.
Anywho, the show was awesome. It was the Sky Electric's first time playing in Seattle, and they killed it. Not to mention my favorite photo from the night was of their frontman, Cory. ;D Check the full blog and you can see for yourself.
We'll start the coverage off with a photo of Jessie, pointing. Oooh...

I was bound to eventually write this article. Best food in Seattle (and the surrounding areas): The Kelly Mason edition. I felt obligated to post this as soon as possible after Jessie's intro, so feel free to contribute if you know of any hidden gems that you would like to share with RCA.
Now, I wouldn't call myself a food connoisseur, but if there is a delicious (and cheap!) place to eat in Seattle, you can bet your sweet patootie that I have eaten there. Well, aside from Mama's Mexican Kitchen, which I hear is phenomenal, but I don't usually…

Hexxus coverage from Friday night
Hopefully we will be able to do this with more shows, because I had a lot of fun on Friday night and want to start covering concerts on a regular basis. It'll be like those cheesy nightclub pictures you always see on peoples' Myspace/Facebook pages, but they will be awesome because the music doesn't suck and everyone is cool. Some video games that may or may not have contributed to my functionality as a grown human being.
Well folks, this is where my nerdy side comes out of the closet. I just played Halo for three hours when I should have been updating the site, so I figured I had to come clean.
Here are some video games that have influenced me throughout my life (meaning I have spent way too much time playing them):
Halo 2 and 3, collectively. I didn't buy an Xbox until 2 came out, but if I had one before you can bet your sweet ass that I would have played the first version as well. Anyway, I don't really want to…

Bite of Seattle!
There's nothing that excites me more than eating (I have a sweet blog coming up that is also related to food), so there should be no reason for me to not go to the Bite of Seattle this weekend, right?!
WRONG.
Turns out I have/had to work all weekend, and the only way I am going to get to go chow down on some delicious/expensive treats is if I get up at 8, take the light rail to Seattle (it opened today), eat, leave, then drive to work by noon. Considering it is already 1 o'clock in the morning and…

New old Progress in Color
That's right,
Progress in Color have re-recorded/posted two of the songs that made us want to
interview them back in 2007.
The new recordings sound
awesome, and with them Caleb posted a sort of disclaimer blog (check their
Myspace to read it, or the comments for a direct link) telling people why they shouldn't say the older songs are better because "they suck" and that's all they had the ability to record in the beginning. The new versions are how they were always supposed to sound.
Caleb also states that if you like the demos…

Bands today are really into their cover songs...
I have come to the conclusion that lesser known bands only cover over-played pop songs to gain some sort of instant boost of MySpace fame, and it's getting more and more obvious by the AbsolutePunk news post. Admittedly, a few of them are not so bad (*cough* ADTR), but the rest are just ridiculous. I mean come on, you can't honestly think that all of these bands actually like covering cheesy pop songs-- but anything for a few more plays must be worth the agony. As one of our writers, Dan, speculated in the comments, "It's just one of many…

Hexxus promos... GREAT SUCCESS
What an adventure last weekend was. The guys in
Hexxus and I went out to the Edmonds waterfront to take some promos, and they ended up getting really, really messy in the process.
First we took some normal shots, which turned out the best:
Then came the sand/seaweed/Value Village jackets. I really wish we could have taken some more photos with this, but the sun was going down and the only place we could think of to take pictures was knee deep in the Puget Sound. Unfortunately, that didn't work…

With the recent addition of vocalist, Cory,

I didn't realize how easy it is to forget that I have a computer when I work full-time and the sun is always out. It's almost a chore to get on here and update sometimes, but blogging is easier than writing articles and my brain is too fried to come up with something even slightly intellectual anyway.

There's really no place I would have rather been than at Sasquatch this weekend, but seeing as I couldn't convince myself to cough up the money until a week before the event (and I didn't want to request a press pass until the new site was up- at which point it was too late to even ask... though I did anyway and got denied), I was not able to attend. I have been wanting to write about this since the second I got back from listening to the new Man Down Medic tracks yesterday afternoon, but I haven't been able to come up with the right words to describe how incredible everything is sounding so far. I guess 'incredible' would be a good word, but maybe I'm a little biased.

A message to every band I have ever listened to. Namely Alexisonfire. Okay, only Alexisonfire.
Garrett reminded me that the new Alexisonfire CD is coming out next month, so I decided to head to their Myspace to check out Young Cardinals: the obviously kick-ass single that the band took three years to release.
Oh wait, did I say kick-ass? Screw that. I meant borderline Avenged Sevenfold bullshit that I wish I could pretend I didn't hear. But it's too late. My mind has been tainted. What has been heard cannot be unheard. I keep listening to the song expecting my ears (and broken heart) to magically adapt to this style that, as far as I…

It's throwback music hour, baby.
I am currently listening to Taking Back Sunday's Tell All Your Friends from way back in 2002, and am attempting to come to terms with the fact that I think I like the music I used to listen to better than the music I listen to now. I don't know if it's because this is what got me into this genre of music in the first place or if it really is just better than my current musical choices (this would be a very sad realization), but I do know that it is blowing my mind to a point that…

Actually, it sounds like Jessie is going to be calling the shots on this one, but maybe I will take pictures of buildings or squirrels or something while she is doing her thing.
