The Dead Throne Tour Featuring The Devil Wears Prada

The Dead Throne tour stopped through Seattle on Monday night, and I cannot remember the last time I had this much fun photographing a show. FINALLY. My friend Adam was in town for the weekend and he does a lot of photo work for The Devil Wears Prada, so he hooked it up with a VIP pass (and a unique place to shoot for the last few songs).

Disclaimer: I only took photos of Enter Shikari and The Devil Wears Prada. I wasn't really planning on taking pictures in the first place, but I couldn't…

Thrice, La Dispute, Moving Mountains, O'Brother

I think I might have been one of approximately five people in the world (rough estimate, y'know) who have never witnessed Thrice in all of their glory, and I'm probably one of an even smaller number who have never listened to one of their albums. Go ahead, judge me. I'm judging myself after going to see this tour. Needless to say, I had not a clue as to what to expect.

I will say though, my drawing factor was La Dispute and Moving Mountains. I was interested in seeing how La Dispute would fit into this bill.…

Switchfoot/Anberlin in NYC @ BestBuy Theater, Times Square.

Well, I can die happy.

On Sunday, September 25, 2011, Switchfoot and Anberlin played at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square, New York City, and it was awesome. I had interviewed Jerome of Switchfoot three days pior (click here to read it!!), so I was ansy and pumped as I stood in line for HOURS with other Switchfoot fans, called "Friends of the Foot." Honestly, I couldn't believe what was happening. I was standing in line with a ticket in hand and a press pass in the other. My year had…

Identity 2011 @ The Gorge: Recap (Photos Galore!)

100 photos in our Identity blog? Well, okay.. Consider yourselves warned. I always take a lot of random photos before, during, and after events, so I figure why not share them for once? The man with the perfect facial hair (don't deny it) is Mikey, and the one raging with a banana is Jan. Most of the rest are random! So now you know.

Feel free to use these photos as you please (just don't edit them or pretend they are yours.. duh), but please credit Rain City Ambience with a link back to the site. OR…

The 2011 Honda Civic Tour comes equipped with nostalgia and endless hilarity!

Mark Hoppus

Washington recently welcomed Rancid, My Chemical Romance, and blink-182 on the 2011 Honda Civic Tour. The night was packed full of roaring crowds, awesome bands, and sex jokes (courtesy of Mr. Tom DeLonge). But honestly, what is a blink-182 concert without the mention of bj's and wait...Justin Bieber? Don't worry, the two subjects did not coincide, yikes! But before these nonsensical ramblings occurred, there were two sets that were sure to deliver a jaw-dropping time.

Rancid opened the show, and while I was amongst many teenagers who had never indulged in their music (nor had…

Warped Tour 2011: A weekend of epic proportions (and SPF 50)

As most of you probably know, the Vans Warped Tour wrapped up two weeks ago, and Rain City Ambience had the privilege of covering both the Seattle and Portland dates (Katie, Chris, & myself at the Gorge, Brianna in Portland). Covering events like this is kind of my bread and butter, so I'm claiming blogging rights, but Katie and Brianna both will have images featured in this post as well.

While there were many well known and well loved bands on the tour this year, there were also a handful of up-and-comers who are worthy of your…

Photo blog: Alabaster, Goodnight Sunrise, Girl On Fire, and The Material @ El Corazon

To say I am "slow" when it comes to compiling photo blogs post-any-show-at-El-Corazon is an understatement. I am usually horrified by the number of images that are too dark/godawful to post, but last Tuesday night I had the pleasure of shooting Alabaster, Goodnight Sunrise, Girl On Fire, and The Material at El Corazon with sporadically awesome lighting. I had to leave before the headliner, New Year's Day, played, so I apologize if they are your favorite band and I just ruined your evening by not sticking around to capture their essence via photographic measures.

/end typical rant…

Photo blog: Grieves and Budo at Neumos

In case you haven't noticed, I have been on a bit of a Seattle hip hop kick over the past several months. While I am no aficionado, there are a ton of local artists who are being recognized as up-and-comers to look out for--and for good reason. Case in point: Grieves & Budo, a duo who just released their first album on Rhymesayers Entertainment, Together/Apart. They played their CD release show in Seattle at Neumo's, and I was fortunate enough to snag a photo pass for the event.

Yeah, I don't even know how to begin…

Panic At The Disco and fun: future of pop music?

Nevermind how late I am on posting this.. but what's with all the band bashing? Ignore how hypocritical I am for saying that, seeing how I've had my fair share of bashing on bands, but I've taken a new stand! Really, they're doin' their own thang. Who are we to judge their intentions? We don't know these musicians personally, so we shouldn't be talking like we know them. I had this in mind as I was watching such bands as fun. and Panic At The Disco take the stage in Seattle late last month.

Just some ramblings & photos about a little unknown band called Panic! at the Disco

Panic! at the Disco

Currently I am burdened with heavy post-concert depression but while I yearn for the opportunity to revisit that night, I know that I would not be in this state if it were not for the show being completely kick-ass! While I won't dwell on the fact at how disappointing it was to be informed that fun. would not be attending the Portland date, I must say their set would have been far more superior than that of their replacements', local band…

A little dose of southern comfort

After an extremely long couple of weeks, I was eager to indulge myself in a very mellow show. Opening was Austin Gibbs and while I had never heard his music, he performed with a great deal of enthusiasm that caused an uproar from the crowd. Shortly after, The Maine took the stage with a multitude of hilarities, songs of nostalgia, and a teenage fan accompanying John O'Callaghan on stage and taking over the mic...there may or may not have been a little bromance. Lastly, Augustana satisfied the audience with a flawless and beautiful set. I am envious of those who…

This is a blog about Manchester Orchestra and Cage the Elephant.

Ladies and gentlemen, I just downed a 5-hour energy, and my blogging brain is bursting with ideas. Luckily, I just finished editing my photos from last week's Cage the Elephant, Manchester Orchestra, and Sleeper Agent show at Showbox Sodo--and as much as I would love to sit here and complain about how terrible the lighting was that night--I'm just going to cut to the chase.

Sleeper Agent opened the show with a solid performance, and--incidentally--the best lighting of the night was during their set. Way to build me up to break me down, lighting gods. I guess…

Friends! Music! Fun!

When I first started getting involved in Seattle local music, bands like Gatsbys American Dream, Danger:Radio, From Aphony, and Blane were names commonly found on the bills for a majority of shows. With that in mind, last night's show a throwback. I think it's fair to say that only at a Rain City Ambience show would you find members of each of those bands, even if the members from those bands weren't performing but merely in attendance. Before I joined the staff here, I had always thought of this website as the middle person in the scene,…

Are you listening? WHOOOOAAAA dun-nun-nun

There are very, very few bands that can span multiple generations of concert go-ers and still maintain the same momentum they had when they first spiked in popularity. Death Cab is one, Jimmy Eat World is another. Let me precursor this by saying one thing, the last time I saw Jimmy Eat World was a bad experience. Details aren't important, because this show was kinda sorta really great and completely redeemed the band in my mind.

There isn't much that can be said about this band that hasn't been said before. They have a…

Bamboozle 2011 recap: The joys and woes of a New Jersey tradition.

Just as a bit of a precursor to this blog, I want to outline the main things that I learned at this year's Bamboozle festival:

1) Juggalos really do exist. And they're creepy as hell. Whoever decided that Insane Clown Posse needed to play a festival comprised mostly of 16-year-old girls is either a) a pervert or b) has no idea what a "target demographic" is and why they should at least KIND OF stick to it.

2) There are actually people in Jersey who look, talk, and act like the goons on Jersey Shore.

3) It…

Take Action Tour 2011 = success!

I'm always a little skeptical of tours nowadays. Over time I have found that tours has one of two things happening: either all of the bands aren't my cup 'o tea and I end up very bored, or every band is amazingly mind-blowing and not a single person is having a bad time. Thankfully last night the band situation stayed in the realm of the latter. Although only a little over 200 tickets pre-sold, El Corazon started to fill up just before Bayside went on, only to half way empty just before Silverstein took the stage.

I can't…

Fira in the studio!

Last night I had the pleasure of joining Chris Bicknell and Kevin Hanaford, of the new band Fira, in the studio. Those names aren't at all foreign to Rain City Ambience. They recorded a new demo for the band within our time there and I can say with all certainty, there is change coming. I can't exactly pin point what, but it's been a long time since I've seen that much passion for music come out of individuals in the scene. The band is still very much in the beginning stages but I know it's going to blow…

Photo post: Wild Orchid Children at El Corazon

Wild Orchid Children and Orbs ended their tour in Seattle last weekend and I thought their show would be a fantastic way to round out my weekend of shows before spring quarter began. I didn't see very much of the first two bands, but Orbs is fantastic. I don't have photographs of them though.

I think Kirk Huffman has unparalleled talent. Everything that man touches turns to gold, and what makes him so incredibly gifted isn't just his sheer talent as a musician but the musicians he works with: amazing percussionists, and not to mention Thomas Hunter who…

Photo blog: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Blueprint, Grynch, and Xperience @ Showbox at the Market

On March 5th, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis played their last of three sold-out shows at the Showbox. I said it that night, and I'll say it again: Despite the fact that I rolled solo to a hip hop show on a Saturday night, by the end of the concert--even as a photographer--I felt like I was in a completely different world. The last time the "show high" effect rubbed off on me while I was working was, uh, never--mostly because usually when I go to shows I zone out, take pictures, and leave. Every single artist…

A preview of things to come!

Since I have nothing of substance to say about this show yet, I thought I'd leave you with a 1500x1000 image of Spencer Chamberlain (Underoath) doing what he does best. This week is full of midterms and misery for me, but look for our interview with Grant Brandell and more photos of the band in the next couple of weeks.

The 'Bryce Avary: His Instruments and Your Voice' Tour

The Rocket Summer’s “Bryce Avary: His Instruments and Your Voice” Tour stopped by Seattle on Monday, Nov. 8. This isn’t a tour you’d normally see on my list of must see shows. I’d been hearing mixed reviews of Bryce Avary for quite some time and considering since The Rocket Summer hadn’t come through Seattle recently, there hadn’t been a chance to see if they were my “cup of tea”, or so to say.

Joining The Rocket Summer on this tour were He Is We. A lot of people I know rave about them, due to the fact that…

The Vultures Unite tour at El Corazon--November 2nd, 2010

It's very well possible that I start every photo blog by talking about how much the lighting at El Corazon sucks for taking photos. It's also possible that I have never mentioned this before, but it's Sunday and I'm feeling a bit too lazy to go back and check. Anyway, should any member of a band who wants me to take photos of them at this venue actually read this, I have a message for you:

Say Anything / Motion City Soundtrack tour!

On October 19th, the Say Anything/Motion City Soundtrack headlining tour came through Seattle, playing at Showbox Sodo. The lineup for this tour was impressive. The music scene has arguably been going through many changes; ones that we can only hope are for the better and amidst that--in a music scene of similarity and little to no tact--there are still musicians creating real and original music. This tour, with its four acts, are all bands with their own sound. This wasn’t a show that you’d go to and forget one or two of the bands that played later in…

Yes, I know. I epically fail at getting my photos up in a timely manner, but I guess its better late than never? Right then...

I had never seen WCAR before this show; never listened to their music, never saw them play, and had only heard their name before. Man, was that a REALLY big mistake. These guys are awesome. Deadmau5, Die Antwoord, and Skrillex @ The Paramount Theatre, October 13th 2010

This past Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending my first "rave"-esque show. Honestly, I have no idea how to describe the experience because it was all so new to me, so I will leave it to Craig to write up the review within the next couple of days.

This is what I do know: I hadn't seen Skrillex since he was the singer of From First to Last about five years ago, and his set kicked ass; Die Antwoord was entertaining yet at the same time the weirdest thing I had ever seen; and Deadmau5 blew…

There For Tomorrow @ El Corazon--October 6th, 2010

Well everyone, I took photos of There For Tomorrow at El Corazon again. This must be some kind of record; I haven't taken this many pictures of a single band since the days of bi-weekly From Aphony shows at KTUB. Did I mention that TFT is from Florida and only play here a few times a year? Maybe that's a sign that I should start attending more shows.

I wasn't sure about about the lineup of this tour at first, but my skepticism melted away once Tommy & the High Pilots took the stage. None of…

There are few things I love more than hip hop from the Northwest, and The GNU Deal are no exception. I had the privilege of hanging out with Ashton and Eric a few weeks ago to take promos, and our adventure around Seattle ranged from the University District to the ever-classy White Center. We told dirty jokes, ate pho, and took about 300 awesomely ridiculous photos. This is the only one I can release for now, but I will definitely be posting the rest after their next album drops.

Set Your Goals @ The Gorge; Warped Tour 2010

This is the only band I used my 20mm (wide angle) lens on, and I kind of regret not using it for more bands. Oh well, Set Your Goals were my favorite band at Warped Tour this year, so I guess they deserved special treatment. Did I mention that at the after-Warped-BBQ their tour manager found an ax, and there is now a photo of me holding it floating around the cyber-verse? Didn't think so. Basically, Warped Tour was insane.

Ahem. Moving on.

Enjoy!

Warped Tour 2k10: Hillsboro

The fairgrounds were sweltering but it was so worth it! Aside from sweating my ass off, life at Warped this year was made so much easier with a press/photo pass that I do not want to revert back to being pressed against 100 0ther teenage sweat-machines while trying everything in my power to guard my camera. It's these little perks that made this year's Warped nothing shy of INCREDIBLE!

Take a look at a few shots I took of Breathe Carolina, Mayday Parade, and The Cab.

VersaEmerge @ The Gorge; Warped Tour 2010

I have so many photos from Warped left to post that the thought of blogging anything is kind of frightening. An evening with the Maine..

...and about 300 other REALLY sweaty people. Seriously, if you were there last Friday at El Corazon for this show, you know what I mean. I think I came out of the club 5 pounds lighter, and I drank so much water!
Despite the extreme heat wave that the club endured, it was an awesome show! I have only seen The Maine play once before, and that was at a huge event [JBB this past December] and I can say that I really do enjoy them live. They have an energy that I don't see very often…

Just letting you know that Jessie Gracic is an amazing musician who needs to upload new songs to her Myspace--or just make more music in general. We hung out with our good friend, Joe, yesterday, and jammed for a few hours (I pretended that I knew how to play the bass and had fun even though I suck). I took about 550 photos (srsly) and am going to make a stop motion movie once I obtain Final Cut Pro, but for now I just have some stills to share.

There For Tomorrow @ El Corazon--June 30th, 2010

I was going to wait until a few more photos surfaced, but the ones I took will suffice for now. This was the first time I was able to use my 50mm f/1.4 USM lens at a show, and I can't even express in words how much of a difference it made--even WITH sand in the autofocus mechanism (don't ask), the photos looked at least five times better than the ones I have taken with my 50mm f/1.8. There hasn’t been very many times in the last year or two that I could honestly say I was proud of the Seattle scene. There’s no denying that our scene had hit rock bottom. Between some of the largest local bands breaking up and kids just not going to shows, some would go as far to say we don’t have a scene anymore. Slowly bands have been making a return and more bands have been formed, but one band that has stuck it out is Moneta. This amazing band made its debut in early 2007 and…

PHOTO DUMP: European Escapades part 2

Hey everyone, I know it's been a couple of weeks, but I'm back with photos from London and Cambridge, England for your viewing pleasure.

I fell in love with London, and if you ever have the chance to go, DO IT DO IT DO IT. It's the most expensive country in the world, so don't expect to do very much shopping, but if you eat at Mark's & Spencer's (basically a grocery store chock-full of delicious ready-made food) for every meal of every day you should be alright. Plus, the Tate Museum of Modern Art is free admission, and there…

PHOTO POST: Take Action Tour 2010: There For Tomorrow @ El Corazon 2/24

Well, dudes and dudettes, I finally sucked it up and went to a show last night, but I could only stay for There For Tomorrow due to the fact that I had to study for the finance quiz I had this morning. To make up for the fact that I couldn't stay for long, I took 150 pictures of There For Tomorrow, and I put about 25 of them up on my Flickr. The lovely Jasenka Gracic's boyfriend tattooed the manager of the tour in the upstairs of the venue, but that's another story.

The lighting at El…

PHOTO DUMP: European Escapades part 1

Is everyone enjoying the Olympics so far? Watching bobsled after bobsled flip over on that icy track has... well, made me want to ride a roller coaster, but it has also scared the living hell out of me. Seeing peoples' heads slide on ice at 90 miles-per-hour sends chills down my spine.

Local speed-skater Apolo Ohno had a couple of intense races tonight, and he took home the bronze medal! Woot woot. I think I heard the announcer say that he now holds more medals than any other winter Olympics athlete, and that this is his third Olympic games. Wow.…

School Boy Humor: rising the pop-punk bar.

Back in October 2009, I went to a show at the Marlboro Rec Center in Marlboro, New Jersey as the photographer for Jersey Shows (not to be confused with Jersey Shore... there weren't any guidos to be found.) I was originally there to shoot for my good friends Solfege Radio. My camera died right after there set. BUMMER. I found an outlet near the door and sat for the next few bands. I heard Matt of Danimal Records say that the last band was about to hit the stage and I should take some photos, so I unplugged my charger,…

Barcelona photo post

As a few of you may know, I went to Europe over the summer and took LOTS of photos. Most of them are on another computer, but I edited the ones I took in Barcelona, Spain. There are some artsy ones, but most of them are just snapshots that I took while wandering around the city.

You can see them all on my Flickr page, but here are a few that I thought were especially interesting:

..and a glamour shot…

Anarbor and Lydia, October 16th @ El Corazon

I got a new 50 mm lens for my camera (my other one broke), and I thought the Lydia show would be a perfect place to break it in. Unfortunately, as you probably know if you have ever tried taking pictures at El Corazon, the venue's lighting is really bad, but I did what I could.

He is We was almost done with their set when I got there, so I didn't get to take any photos of them. Maybe next time.

Anarbor was after He is We. I'd never heard them before, but I liked them! They definitely had…

Battle of the Bands @ Starland Ballroom

As my hometown went to Warped Tour 2009 @ the Gorge, I spent my August 15, 2009, at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey. This show was unlike any competition I've been to . This show was The Battle of the Bands, New Jersey edition.

The top 8 bands from all over New Jersey competed in this finale of the battle. My friend and I endured a long trek to Sayreville... a long traffic'd Garden State Parkway. If you know me, you know that one thing I hate with passion of 3 firey suns is traffic. Why? I can't…

I am the epitome of fail.

I have to leave for work in six minutes, but I haven't posted anything for a few days so I thought I'd check in.

Jessie and I had a little mini photoshoot a few days ago, and after we took some serious photos we went a little crazy with the black eyeliner. This was the result:

Incidentally, this is the only photo I have edited so far because I have been working nonstop since I got back from LA, but it made me lololol so I thought I would share.

Sorry, Jessie.

Real update later!

White walls = original

I took promos of Cavalier the other day. My computer crapped out midway through editing.
Mind you, I don't take band promos. They needed somebody to snap pictures on short notice.

Click for large version.

Most of them are from this park in Auburn, but it got dark and we needed some indoors ones. We got into the hospital their lead singer Stephen works at. We knew that taking pictures in hospitals is illegal, and I hope no government officials are reading this. But whatever. I don't like the coloring in this, but…

Hexxus promos... GREAT SUCCESS

What an adventure last weekend was. The guys in Hexxus and I went out to the Edmonds waterfront to take some promos, and they ended up getting really, really messy in the process.

First we took some normal shots, which turned out the best:

Then came the sand/seaweed/Value Village jackets. I really wish we could have taken some more photos with this, but the sun was going down and the only place we could think of to take pictures was knee deep in the Puget Sound. Unfortunately, that didn't work…

Photos! Discovery Park is badass.

The photo portion of the site is not completely finished yet, so I am posting my photos on the blog instead. Hoorah.

This is the series I did for my ART 140 (basic photo) final project. My friend, Tim Willis, suggested I go to Discovery Park to take photos because my original idea failed miserably, so we went up on Tuesday night to explore. I'd say I am pretty proud of these...

Cavalier promos today

Jessie and I will be going out and taking promotional photographs (that sounds so official!) of Cavalier today, so keep an eye out for those!

Actually, it sounds like Jessie is going to be calling the shots on this one, but maybe I will take pictures of buildings or squirrels or something while she is doing her thing. All I know is that I have not gotten the chance to officially break in my new camera, and this sounds like a perfect opportunity.

On that note, if you need promos then shoot me an email... I need to…
